Student Project: Hot Sauce Label
Objective: Design a hot sauce label for Sonoma Hot Sauce Company, using the "Perro Bombero" sauce name.
Design Process: The name "Perro Bombero" translates to "Fireman Dog." I wanted to avoid classic depictions of firehouse dogs, especially Dalmatians. I was inspired by my dog Benny, who passed away a few years ago. I started with multiple sketches of a dog character as well as images related to the project (e.g., chilis, fire trucks, etc.) I then presented several designs to the project lead/professor. He then assigned me to create this design. The images were all created in Illustrator then imported to PhotoShop to create the mock-up.
Color Theory: I chose red, green, and yellow as my primary design colors, which are all prominent in food packaging.
This was a fun project, and one of my earliest. I am proud of this piece and may develop the character further in future projects.
